More-Life-Lessons-Kids-Learn-in-Jiu-Jitsu-Tracks-BJJThe challenges that kids encounter while training Jiu Jitsu are a great metaphor for life. No matter what problem or obstacle stands in front of you, you can figure out a way to get past it!

Kids that participate in martial arts can benefit from these valuable lessons at any age. And here are a few more life lessons kids learn in Jiu Jitsu:

1. Fitness doesn’t have to feel like a punishment.

Over the past few decades, the amount of physical activity that adults and kids get on a daily basis has steadily declined. To encourage people of all ages to be more active, a variety of programs have been popping up that encourage fun over anything else.

Compare running laps around an empty gym to something like Jiu Jitsu. Which one sounds like punishment, and which one looks like fun? Pretty sure most kids would lean toward martial arts – an activity that gets you moving without it feeling like a punishment.

2. Every attempt won’t end in success.

Putting kids in situations where they won’t get things exactly right the first time teaches them a valuable lesson – resiliency.

If a child attempts a skill and doesn’t get it right the first time, they might feel like a failure. But the cool part is what happens next. With some encouragement and instruction, kids are encouraged not to give up. They learn how to get up and try something again. And again, and again.

3. Delayed gratification is worth it in the end.

As kids learn more about Jiu Jitsu, their skills improve over time. With this improvement comes new and more challenging skills and techniques. Eventually, kids discover that not all skills can be conquered immediately or in a single day.

It takes a lot of time and patience to improve in Jiu Jitsu. It would be great to be successful right away, all the time. But that’s not realistic. The lesson in continuing to work hard for several weeks, months, and years and having that hard work pay off in the end is yet another valuable lesson that martial arts training can teach kids.
